Phantom Vortex: (Be Part of this WIP) Will be 3D eventually...

I’ve been very resistant to posting sketches and similar, but due to everyone’s insistence, I guess I’m compromising.

The main idea is to create a van that is sporty. By sporty I mean sports car type sporty. The general style is going to be a curved style (think Ferrari 360, Porsche 911, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Chevrolet Corvette, etc….) Now I want top specify that I am not making this van in a similar way to how most people define “futuristic”. This will not (1)have the bubbly look (VW Beetle) or (2) have the strange mix of curves and straight cut lines (Mercury Cougar).

I’ll try to give everyone proper opportunity before I move too far, meaning the process will be much slower than usual. I would like to add that my Internet is pathetic at the moment, so I may not be able to post updates as soon as I have completed them.

Phantom Vortex Page

Right now there is only one date listed, but each update will receive a new web page. I’ll try to leave the older pages untouched.

Now any and all input is appreciated.

Yes, this will eventually be a complete 3D model.

Here's what I'm seeing:
Reminds me of Infiniti FX45

in the rear, and Ford Taurus Wagon
in the pillar shape and a few other aspects.
Overall silhouette is Toyota Previa.

Potential problems:
1. Window beltline high and top low, potentially compromising visibility for drivers and passengers. Especially problematic is the 3rd-row passenger's view, as his window is tiny and triangular.
2. Driver's door looks to be VERY difficult to climb into.
3. Overall door openings very small compared to other minivans, hindering ease of getting in and out of van.

Things I like so far:
1. The rear roofline - the FX45-ness of it. Don't quite know how to explain.
2. Front air dam - but I think the headlights need some streamlining because from this angle they look VW-New-Beetle-ish.

Questions: How does the rear open? Hatch?

I think it's a good start, and I look forward to seeing some updates.

Thanks for the critique.

The back will probably open in a hatch like format.

i agree with what boingo said, but there are a few things that i would like to add.

first, i think that the high belt line is fine...its the current ''trend'' to have a high belt line, but i agree that the top of the side windows are too low.

about the rear three quarter visibility...who cares about the 3rd row passengers...they're most likely to be kids who will be more interested in playing the inbuilt playstation or watching dvd's on the inbuilt dvd player....

however, the doors do seems a litle small, but it all depends on the scale. if this a regular sized minivan then yes, the doors are way too small. but if the size is a bit larger...for example the massive ital design columbus:

...then the doors might be about right

hope that helps

it's definetly a lot longer than a standard minivan. I need to update my page. I have new stuff to show. It'll probably be there later tonight.
