What is the purpose of the Air Snorkel?

Would it improve airflow to take it off, and is the resonator useful also?

It's the long black air intake pipe that brings air from the right-front side of the engine into the air filter box.

Looks like it would suck in the hottest air (from around the exhaust manifold), stupid idea.

When I read the title of this post I thought you were going to ask if any company made a snorkle for the Civic, like off-road trucks do to keep the engines from sucking in water when they drive through streams and whatnot.

Whoops...yeah, the title is kinda bad. Oh well.

So if I remove it, will my car spontaneously combust? (My Dad thinks so... "Honda put it there for a reason"...)

whenever your dad says "honda put it on there for a reason" just say "because they are gay and put shit like that on when they should have put a headlight buzzer in!"

LOL - i know!! I hate that shit.

Your car won't blow up dude...you should get a cheap e-bay cold air intake, but get a by-pass valve so that if you do suck in water, you won't hurt the motor...that reminds of that movie Dante's Peak...lol

The cone filter will go where the resonator box is (or where the filter box is if you get a short ram intake)...you can't really see it, it is down under the turn signal bumper light..that is what that stupid snorkel is attached to

I have an AEM CAI for the Si...it doesn't fit perfectly...however, it will fit nicely on the ZC - it currently rubs the strut bar and the hole down to the old resonator box location a little...the DPFI intake system seems to sit forward and up just a little bit making the bends a little harder to make..but it does fit

This shot was before the Neuspeed strut bar tho:
