Angry AXOD Transmission Slips & Jerks

A few weeks ago my transmission started intermittently jerking into low gear right before coming to a complete stop. A few days later, the car started intermittently "slipping" when making a left hand turn. the transmission would seem to rev then engage after the sharpest point in the turn. I changed the transmission fluid and filter hoping that would correct the problem. It now seems worse. After the car is warmed up, it does this slip and jerk thing in all of the gears. It's still intermittent, but makes me look like some idiot learning how to drive a stickshift. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? The tranny ran pretty good this morning and horrible on the way home from work. the outside temperature was only about 5 degrees different from morning to afternoon, so I am not sure that Temperature plays a part in this...(60am/65pm ~ degrees)

Any help is appreciated.

What year is your piece of shit? Mine is a 1990 and it does the same thing! A tranny fluid change helped a little but it still slips on left turns. Also for some reason it doesn't slip when I use the cruise control. I'm thinking it may be computer related or maybe a solenoid in the tranny. At least now I'm going fast enough so that people behind me don't honk and pass me all the time, that piece of shit.

Better take it to a tranny shop and get them to look at before you loose the tranny.

Re: AXOD Transmission Slips & Jerks

Check the VSS sensor.. Actually.. Replace it if you can.. its cheap and causes alot of problems and mechanics profit.

Cruise control gets intermittent and trannie jerks.. comes from that sensor. .

GOOD LUCK

"My son is a Toyota tech and those Toyotas have made him a rich kid."

Last week I was listening to Clark Howard on the AM radio and he said for quality and reliability HYUNDAI has moved in front of Toyota. YIPES! Will the wonders never cease. Oh well, at least our beloved Tauri made number eleven on the best seller list.

April 1, 2005 Top Twenty Selling Vehicles in the U.S. as reported by the automakers. Total sales of the top 20 vehicles fell 2.3 percent or -29,918 units to 1,260,245...where did they go, more later.

Smile Re: AXOD Transmission Slips & Jerks

kaoru-tochiro sez, "What year is your piece of xxxx? Mine is a 1990"

If my figures are corect, yours is SIXTEEN YEARS OLD and no vehicle runs forever without repairs. How many miles on it, 200K or better? If you bought it used, do you know if the proper mainenance schedule has been adhered to? If that was the only time the fluid has been changed in 16 years, then be darn glad the tranny is still working.

FYI: The tranny holds about 15 quarts of ATF and 'changing' the fluid only drains about five to six quarts so you left about 10 quarts of 16 year old ATF in it. NOT GOOD! Bottom line, old, worn out ATF can cause slipping and other problems because it looses it 'properties' and the only way to completely clean out all the old ATF is with a tranny 'flush' and after the flush have the valve body cleaned. Make certain they use the right ATF because using the wrong one can cause problems.

"it still slips on left turns. Also for some reason it doesn't slip when I use the cruise control." Did you read bassasasom's above reply? The VSS sensor tells the tranny when to shift and also runs the cruise control, so possibility it could be going bad.

IMHO, Tauir are not 'pieces of XXXX' because many run 250K miles still going strong. Case in point, read dan_taurus's reply: "my 96 gl has 275000 k's on it, you couldn't drive anymore aggresively than i and i'm yet to do anything to it but standard fluid changes."

The Taurus is a 'fleet' car and over the years it has proven it's reliability and ability to easily make 200K miles with proper maintenance. Many of the problems we address here could probably have been prevented by simply following the maintenance schedule in the owners manual. Like the man said, "You can pay me now or pay me later, and later is usually a lot more expensive than now . . ."
Pay me now = maintenance. Pay me later = expensive repairs.
I feel safe in saying, drive and maintain your Taurus with respect and it will be good to you.

Have a nice week end, enjoy your Taurus and please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
