oil comsumption in 1995 4.6 liter engine
from [email protected]
My 1995 mercury uses about a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles. There is no visible signs of leaking and it doesn't smoke. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. Carroll Last edited by carsus; 05-09-2013 at 09:36 AM. Reason: add e-mail address |

Valve seals on these engines are know to go bad and that is USUALLY the issue. May not be bad enough to see but may be happening anyway. Let us know what you find!! Bobby

Ford also states on those model years that 1 quart of oil in 1,000 miles is "acceptable usage". Hello Bobby

Howdy Tom! Didn't realize Ford allowed that much! My '95 doesn't use that much so I guess that is a good thing. Looks like our "poster" is OK then!!
