Surging on 1st Start Up
We have an 03 Safari with 140,000 km and on first start up in the morning the motor surges. The rest of the day it seems to be fine. Just wonder if anyone has any ideas. Thanks

Re: Surging on 1st Start Up
Surging as in a wandering idle RPM, or as in a misfire? Any error codes?

Re: Surging on 1st Start Up
Surging, as in the van wanting to take of without you giving it any gas, no misfiring. Have never checked codes . . . can we do that ourselves?

Re: Surging on 1st Start Up
High idle RPM can be caused by vacuum leaks. The more common places are the vacuum "T" fitting on the left (driver) side of the intake and the EGR. If the idle seems erratic, sometimes normal and sometimes high, it may be a good idea to clean the throttle body and IAC passages. You'll have to remove the air filter box, MAF, and TB air horn to access the TB well enough to clean it adequately. TB cleaner and/or carburetor cleaner (both sprays) are effective.
