![]() Hi everyone, started this a few days ago, It's tamiya's 1/12 scale kit, and I plan a lot of modifications. The goal is to build the most correct example of chassis 935/77 ch. 004 (car #1) as I can, so far this is has been a bit of a challenge cause the car crashed then when M.I.A........... so far not much work has gone on, I'm waiting for a bunch of part to show up, but I did start on the brakes.... ![]() Well first of I read on some other forums that the stock calipers don't fit on the brake disk when you have the photoeched on them, but,all you have to do is a tiny bit of sanding to thin them out. ![]() then you got to cut of the mounting points so that they slide over the caliper brackets, other wise you cant fill in the seam... ![]() then everything was drilled out for some turned parts, also the seams where filled with some tamiya putty, these parts where cast in 1:1 and conveniently the casting seam is right on the joint in the model, so i shaped the putty to look like overfill in a metal mold ![]() I've got brake bleeders to fill in later, once it's all painted... more soon.... Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
next off is the alternator,
![]() ![]() (sorry about the phone it was off then turned on just as i took the picture to tell me the battery is dieing.... tamiya's got it totally wrong, the bracket is sposed to connect to the black piece, ![]() so everything was cut apart and sanded.... ![]() the alternator was cut in half... ![]() Then more plastic added to get it too the right shape.... ![]() then on the engine block the bracket was cut off and sanded, also started drilling out all the holes bit more soon |

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
transmission all so needs some work,
![]() ![]() ![]() still a lot more to do to it, decent amount of things still need to be reshaped.... next was this little box thing on top of the trans, stock tamiya even had it pointed the wrong way, how tamiya did it: ![]() how its should look ![]() This piece still needed a bit of work and a flange was added around it... ![]() Then the area it attached too, needed a bit of work. ![]() still a bit more.... |

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
turned my attention next to the engine block,
![]() (this area still needs a lot of work) also the oil filter...... thing?(no idea what to call it) welds where added, along with some other pieces.... ![]() And the bottom of it had to be completely reshaped... ![]() last few things, I've been messing with doing the fiberglass the piece on the right is stock, modified is on the left... ![]() And I worked on the tire's trying to get a real heavy used look... ![]()

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
got some stuff added to the back on the transmission...
Reference shot: ![]() Then mine, added the cast in oil thing? painted it black to c if the putty was level.. ![]() Then I worked on one side of the front of the motor, Here's the reference, (this is a 934 motor, not a 935) ![]() Then mine.... ![]() In the same reference shot you can see some more stuff that need to be added, kinda hard to see but notice that around some parts there seam to be welds, tried to replicate this..... ![]()

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
Then I did some stuff on the bottom,
![]() ![]() also got the valve cover all drilled out.. ![]() Thanks for looking, this is kinda a odd request but I would really appreciate criticism if possible, I'm trying to build this not looking like a 15 year old built it, and whenever this is any sort of flaw, down to the most munute thing, it would be nice to point it out so I can make this the best model possible for me.. Thanks again, P.S. sorry for all the separate post, don't want to over load the forum.... |

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
Cool project and it looks like you're doing the kit justice!
When you say 004 went M.I.A, do you mean recently? IIRC, Gunnar Racing had it for sale a few years ago and it may be worth having a look through their old archives: http://www.gunnarracing.com/ Looks like you already have some nice reference photos anyway! If I could make one suggestion, the best engine mod I did on this model was to cut off the alternator fan and thin the blades from the back making 'L' shaped cuts, so they look like thin, folded metal. Quite time consuming, but results looks great, will try to upload a photo...when I find the model!

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
thanks for the comments guys, and cinqster, not to sound like a smart ass but your wrong.....
the #4 car your talking about is ch. number 001, the car I'm building is ch. number 004, which is the car that the tamiya kit represents (#1) the out side numbers on the cars don't match at all, but speaking of car #4 ch. 001 it's the car that SMS used for there reference CD which I have and is very nice, the main deference of the two is the intake, my car use's a system similar to the 934, while the #4 ch.001 was converted to a different system some time in it's carer.... I don't mean to sound rude in any way, of coarse. Anyways thanks for the great tip! on the alternator, I've been trying to figure out how to fix that.... |

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
Hip,
Your level of desired detail is impressive as is the workmanship. I built this kit in '88 / '89 when it was first released and though I love the old car, it's lightyears from your effort. Speaking from track experience, a criticism about the tire work you did. That level of clag you've added would only happen trundling back into the pits from an off-line excursion. Car can't run effectively on track like that. If you're making a pit diorama, it works. However, I favor pick-up from stones and gravel, very common the world over. Tans and whites paint dots applied as light or heavy as you choose. I love the look of hot tires with stone pick-up and replicated that on my GT seen here:

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
Apologies to Hippie for the brief sidetrack; thank you Greg.
Here's a link but unfortunately all P'Bucket pics are gone. However, my build notes and the tips from the commenting members may be of value. http://www.f1m.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=14014 Eric is doing a great one now.

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
I'm loving this 935 build. I built one a few years ago but you're taking your to a new level. Looking forward to seeing more of you work on this kit.

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
My apologies as well. It was rude of me not to comment on your build (since this is your thread). I am looking forward to your continued attention to realism.

Re: Porsche 935 Martini 1:12 Scale Tamiya
thanks for all the comments guys.... MerlinPro, don't worry about posting your GT-40, its a amazing build, and you should show it off more.... and thanks for the tire tip, living in Detroit, all I get to see in the racing world is boring nascar so I had no idea what the tires would look like, I was copying Robex's AMAZING build, probably the best 935 in my opinion, just hoping i can do half of what he did...
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=928307 And mach1 2003 looked up your build, and it's epic, hope you don't mind but I'm probably gona steal the fiberglass thing..... any way to the car! got the trans work mostly done, Here's a bunch of pic's all around it in case your trying the same thing... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's not totally perfect but the best I could do without staring from scratch.. |
