Looking for advice and opinions

Hi everybody. I'm looking for some opinions and advice concerning my 1999 Taurus. Is it a bad idea to still have a car that's around 150,000 miles and every so often needs repairs? Is it common for people to still have car with this mileage or more and tolerate repairs? I always hear people say that it's not good and you shoud get rid of your car with that mileage. My car still runs good, but with age there are things that have happened that required work. The thing is buying a new car, even used, seems like it would be hard given the price and if there are financial struggles. I also wonder what if I get a used car and it also gives me problems. With that I would have to spend money o nthe monthly fees, along with repairs. I don't know what to think and it's very stressful for me.

If DIY repairs, you can buy cheap used auto parts at your local bone yard.
I just picked up a New MAF sensor + Frame air filter for $20.

It's a quandary we all have to face. If you've kept everything working, it's still reliable and you're not ashamed to be seen in it, I think you should keep it a while longer.
Used to be a radio auto talk guy who urged folks to "keep it another day, then keep it another week, or maybe another year or two".

Sounds like you've already made up your mind. You just need someone to tell ya you're not nuts! Ok... you're not!
Personally I don't need that latest, stylish car that you've bombarded with on every other TV commercial. I dont go around imagining myself as someone in those commercials wjth people envying me or girls swooning over my car! I also dont have to worry about someone lookin to steal it every time I park somewhere or getting it scratched or dented.
New cars break down too. I'd feel like crap havin it in the shop and making payments on it every month!
Leasing is totally out of the question. Its like renting. When the term is up ya got nothing and are usually upside down.
If your car is in reasonably good shape and has been fairly reliable and you can live with occasional problems I'd say stick with it.
I've been there... done that. I doubt I'll ever buy a new car again. Let someone else worry about the depreciation. Unless I hit the Lotto, Powerball or something!

Re: Looking for advice and opinions

My 98 Sable went to 300,000 miles before I had to park it in the garage with major engine problems. If my wife would quit doing stuff that I have to spend the money on something else, I'd have it rebuilt and running again already. Bought it when it was 1 year old with 10,000 miles. ALL repairs were much, much lower than if I'd bought new every 5 years. I'm hoping to get it running and aim for a million miles. Now, I do buy a newer every 5 years for my wife. This is because of our different schedules and her need to get to work at the hospital, I can't be constantly verifying her vehicle doesn't need some work done to it like I'm able to do with whatever I'm driving.
