96 Olds 88 quits, but restarts right away.
I have a Olds 3.8 series II and it will just quit. It will may quit cruising down the highway or sitting at a stop light. I have changed fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, changed spark plugs and one coil pack.
any help would be GREATLY apreciated!

Many things can cause this, dirty throttle body, bad or dirty idle air, control, sticking egr, to name a few.

Re: 96 Olds 88 quits, but restarts right away.
I agree with Max, you may have to clean the throttle body bore and the pintle of the IAC valve, and it's mating passageway......
fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, changed spark plugs and one coil pack. All these parts were replaced because of a stall? Why one coil pack? Was there a misfire? Any codes set? You have a stall, with immediate restart.....usual symptom of a bad crank sensor, is a stall and then a delayed start.....but have seen them, act the other way too......could try tapping the pedestal of the crank sensor with a long extension, while the car is running....if it stumbles that is your problem......HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD PRACTICE THIS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS NOT RUNNING, DUE TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE ROTATING SERP BELT! Don't try his if you are not confident doing it.....you don't want that extension to be caught by the belt... Another possibility is the connection at the crank sensor and the ICM.....grab the harness and give it a tug while running.....in fact, give a tug on all the harnesses in the engine compartment..... Last, you could try a tap test on the PCM.....use your fingers on the top of the cover, engine in drive, brake applied, 1000rpms......use another person to help do this..... |
