Question Muffler: Does OEM come already welded to Tailpipe?

I have a 2000 Venture with the extended wheelbase. I can buy an OEM stainless muffler, Resonator, and Tailpipe. All come under one GM part number, 10425104. What I need to know is, do these come already welded in one long piece? If so, that begs the question, how do you get it in there? Do you need to let the rear axle hang?

The other option is aftermarket. Searching around, everyone who bought the Walker muffler has stated that it is too short. Rockauto also carries the AP Exhaust. http://apexhaust.com/
The pieces are all sold separately. Lead pipe, muffler, Resonator and Tailpipe. The good news is that all three pieces can be had for about $100 less than the OEM. But they are not stainless.

Anyway, if someone could please let me know if the OEM comes already welded, that would help me decide. Thank you.

If it's one number, it's one piece........

Ever do a rubix cube? You may have to take the rr tire off, and jack up the body so the rear suspension will hang down for extra clearance.......make double sure you have the right part # because this is an "extended" model....

Thanks, Tech II! You make it sound easy.

Would you guys recommend paying the extra $100 and getting stainless, or just stick with the aftermarket (aluminized steel)? Both options have their advantages...

BTW, that pricing is mail order. Buying the muffler at the GM dealer would be at least another $100 more (for a difference of +$200 versus the AP Exhaust from Rockauto). Neither price includes installation.

The one piece stainless would have its advantages up there in the harsh weather and salts of Pennsylvania winters. Ya gotta evaluate the entire condition of the vehicle. Whats it's overall condition? What have you done to it so far? What else is it gonna need in the future? It might be the best choice if you see yourself driving that 12 yr old vehicle for another 6-8 years. JMHO

Thanks, DeltaP. You make some good points, about the weather here and all.

I think the question should be, "What haven't I done to it?" LOL!

It's in fairly good shape, despite the age and 133K miles. And I don't see my financial status taking a dramatic turn for the better, so maybe the extra $100 would be a reasonable investment.
