STOP! Oil Pressure warning light
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help. I have a 2003 VW Passat, V6 engine, which needed to be serviced about 2 weeks ago. I drove the car to work yesterday and when I went to leave after work, the car would not start. The 'STOP! Oil Pressure' warning light has come on. I checked the oil level, which is really low. I'm wondering if I should change the oil where the car is currently. Or should I simply top it up with new oil? Will any of these make the car start? Thanks.

add oil then go have it changed.
Oil will last much longer then the 3,000 they say, and if it is so low you are basically changing the oil already without the filter. You need to find out why it is so low as this is not normal. I have a car with 229,000 miles on it and I can leave that oil in it for 6mts and it will all still be there after about 100miles a day drive. The no start??? does it even turn over at all or just nothing when you turn the key.

My car is quite high in the mileage also.. and I do need to top up the oil very often. I hear that it's a norm with these cars.
The 'STOP! Oil Pressure' warning light no longer comes on. Now, just the symbol for low oil comes on when I try to crank it over. It wants to start, but won't fire up. I have since topped it up with a 5W 30 grade oil, but the car still won't start. I realised that the oil I had in there prior to adding the fresh oil was a 15W 40 grade, which was wrongly recommended to me by the place of purchase. This was added about a month ago. The car seemed to be running ok til now. Could this have caused damage? Could the thick oil eventually cause other mechanical functions to fail, i.e crankshaft etc? Or is this totally irrelevant to the current problem?

It could. You may have killed your oil pump. Check in your book and see what that light means. Some cars have features that will prevent it from starting in certain conditions so you don't damage the engine.
Do you have access to a code reader.
