Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
I purchased a sheet of SMS Plain weave in 1/12 and 1/20th scale for my Tamiya 1/12 Enzo and both seem way out of scale. The 1/20 seems close but still a bit large. In fact the 1/24th scale sheet seems about right. What do you guys think?

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
The weave in 1/24 scale would be practically invisible and maybe even 1/12 scale...which would defeat the purpose in making CF decal at all....so SMS has to make the pattern large enough to see. I wouldn't get tripped up in what scale SMS marks them in, just use the pattern that looks right to you.

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
Hi Xerox
I suggest to use the 1/12 patern, as you said probably the weave looks large for the scale, but at least you can see it. The 1/24 pattern will be invisible and your work don't be appreciated. But I agreed with previous coment, use the one you like it and feel confortable. Sorry about my english regards |

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
As Veyron has said, use what looks right for you . Personally, myself, I like to use 1/20 scale on my builds which are always 1/24 and 1/25 scale.

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
I guess it depends on what kind of look you're trying to achieve. If you want the CF to be visible and a little more in-your-face, go with the 'scale' stuff. If you want something subtle, something you'll only notice when you start looking at the details, I'd drop down a scale (or two).
Personally, I prefer the latter approach, but both are valid. It's personal preference, so if YOU think 1/24 looks best, go with that. |

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
Look at as many reference pictures you can find to get a good general overall feel of the look of the real car and try and match it. Sometimes when you try and go "inch for inch" as the real thing, the feel of it gets lost.
Such nice pictures you posted. The Enzo is quite a car. I've often thought about the Tamiya 1/24th kit as a carbon fiber project and how nice they turn out. |

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
Keep in mind that actual carbon fiber doesn't come just in one size. Depending on the application, the weave can be bigger or smaller.
I would take the advice that the others have made and just say go with what works for you.

Re: Carbon fiber decals out of scale?
What I meant was if you shrunk that real 1:1 Enzo weave down to 1/24 or 1/12 the pattern would be lost.
