anti freeze leak
I have a 2000 suburban and it's leaking anti freeze but not going on the ground not sure where the leaking anti freeze is going to. it started out with no heat I helped my dad replace the cabin filters and got front heat back but after awhile I lost heat only in the front I have rear heat. not sure what the problem is? I am afraid to take it to a dealer and get scammed. it's not over heating or getting hot, but in the winter when it first started it idoled hard and it sounded like something was wrong with the lifter? Not sure where to begin I am to the point I might trade it in tired of putting money into it.. Ugh but it's almost paid for

Question I have is what engine ? What amount of loss over a time period ? what coolant did you use ? dexcool is required, GM APPROVED DEXCOOL ! NOT COMPATIBLE COOLANTS. leaking into the combustion chamber will cause the oil to get sludged/turn a whitish color with lifter noises. air in the system[exhaust gases ] will cause overheating and no heat out the heater. this is because the water pump can only pump water not air. remove the coolant fill pressure cap. with the engine running see if the coolant has exhaust gases in it. place a plastic sheet over the hole see if it pulses with exhaust . leaking at the water pump gaskets is common on the new 5.3/6L engines. Mixing different coolants will plug up the heater cores and cause gasket failures engine metal corrosion. the use of distilled water is required to ensure the coolant has a long life with minimum corrosion. use of drinking water is not pure/has metals and corrosives. |

Re: anti freeze leak
I do use the dexcool coolant already pre diluted. my engine is a 5.3 v 8 I just had my oil changed and they never mentioned anti freeze in my oil either

Re: anti freeze leak
with the 5.3L engine the water pump gaskets are usually the mysterious coolant leak.

Re: anti freeze leak
I have used the prestone kind.. If the anti freeze is not going on the ground where could it be going? in the engine? I had the cam shaft replaced last summer could that have anything to do with it to?

pressure test the coolant system ../ see if the leak is into each cylinder or crankase , if the coolant system pressure test shows pressure loss. |
