99 escort transmission dipstick

I just bought a used 1999 ford escort, and the thing is leaking transmission fluid. I lost the transmission dipstick while checking the levels, and I need to get one before I can drive the thing again, since I don't want to ruin the transmission.

Does anyone know where I can find a dipstick for a 1999 escort? I've looked everywhere and nobody seems to be selling them. Called the dealer and they say they have been discontinued. Checked a myriad of sites and local junkyards. No dice.

Are there any aftermarket dipsticks that would work for my car? I'm not a big car guy so I'm really confused about this whole ordeal.
