97 taurus alarm
changed battery in alarm remote (2 button remote), now alarm remote wont work. if im standing next to car and put battery in remote, the alarm has a constant chirp. open doors and alarm goes off. cant start with out remote working. seems to have a cut off switch inter-grated with alarm. (bought used so assuming it has a kill switch with alarm...factory alarm...) can alarm be bypassed? trying to find out a way to fix with out having to buy another remote (90 bucks) and have ford program it (100 bucks). HELP......Thanks.

Re: 97 taurus alarm
Welcome to the forum!
I don't think I've ever seen a Taurus factory remote that was a 2 button remote, and the factory system doesn't provide starter disable or a siren (rather factory just honks the horn and flashes lights). I think you're going to need to identify the brand of alarm you have, then download instructions for it and/or locate the alarm module most likely somewhere under the dash. If it's an aftermarket alarm, the dealer won't be able to program new remotes. If it's the factory alarm, you can program new remotes, or even try to reprogram your remote. The instructions to do so can be found in the owner's manual. Does the remove have an LED on it that should light when you press a button? If so, does it? Does it use a CR2032 battery, or one of the cylindrical 12V batteries? Are you certain you have the polarity correct? Have you looked for a valet/bypass button under the dash or maybe in the ash tray or glove box? -Rod |

Re: 97 taurus alarm
its a 2 button black remote with no light when i press a button. i bought car used and assumed it was factory because the remote says ford on it. it uses a 12v/23 battery. also when armed by remote, 2 chirps its locked and one chirp its unlocked. i will look for alarm module under the dash. i really appreciate the help.

Re: 97 taurus alarm
That may be a dealer installed alarm, but it doesn't sound factory. If dealer-installed your dealer may be familiar with it, but if you don't need the alarm functionality you may be better off to just pull the fuses or module for the alarm and go without.
Code Alarm used to be the OEM for the factory Ford systems, I'm not sure if they were still the supplier in '97 or later. If you have an owner's manual for your car, check the keyless entry section to see if your remote matches what's in the book. I could be completely wrong on the 2-button versus 4-button. -Rod |
