'05 Taurus Alarm Going Off Randomly
The factory-installed alarm on my 05 Taurus has taken to going off randomly for no reason whatsoever. I dropped it off at the dealership and they said the car seemed a little slow to start and that the battery might be about to go out. I paid $120 for a new battery and $70 in diagnostic fees. We picked the car up and my wife drove it to work. She promptly called to tell me that my car alarm was going off in her office parking lot. The service guy then suggested that perhaps my remote was the problem. I removed the battery from my only remote and w/in 12 hours had another false alarm episode. The dealership says they can't do anything unless the car does it for them. I left it up there for 2 days and of course it didn't do anything. I don't have a lot of confidence in my dealership after spending almost $200 on a battery I apparently didn't need yet. Has anybody seen anything like this before?

Re: '05 Taurus Alarm Going Off Randomly
Welcome to the forum!
There have been A LOT of threads on this forum related to door pin switches going out, and this could cause the alarm to sound. Have you noticed the interior lights on? I would not have much confidence in the dealer either if they are suggesting the remote key fob might be causing the alarm to go off when you are out of range. The only fob button that could cause that would be the panic button, but it sounds like your wife was out of range of the car when the alarm went off. -Rod |

Re: '05 Taurus Alarm Going Off Randomly
Thanks for responding, Rod. I haven't noticed the lights. But honestly I usually just frantically look for my remote and try to shut the thing off. I'll try to have the presence of mind to check that next time. It went off 3 random times on Thursday when I picked it up from the dealer. Knock on wood, it hasn't gone off since. I suspect the problem has temporarily fixed itself, but we'll see.
Thanks again, Alan |
