97 firebird starting problems
I have a 1997 pontiac firebird 3.8 V6. When I try starting my car I will have to crank the ignition for about 5-7 seconds before starting up. When it starts up it a little rough for a couple seconds then runs perfectly fine. when it starts I can smell the exhaust smelling rich. I was checking the spark plugs and they seemed oily and smelt like gas. I know this may be a beginning of a bad problem but I dont know where to start.

Re: 97 firebird starting problems
How old are the plugs and wires? Since you are not complaining of a misfire while driving, I would assume coil output is ok.....
Couple of possibilities are: leaking fuel pressure regulator, coolant sensor, fuel pump circuit( not sure if this uses the oil pressure switch as a backup to the f/p relay, if the relay is bad), check fuel pressure on startup, etc. |
