2003 trailblazer keyless entry

I recently purchased a 2003 trailblazer and it does not come
with keyless entry. Is there any original GM parts that I can install to put the system.

On the newer GM cars and trucks the keyless entry is a simple reprogram or turning on the system whihc might be turned off. You will need a GM Tech 2 to check this out for sure. The worst it would be is changing a computer that accepts keyless.

Flatrater is right,

But you will need to buy the keyless reciever, and transmitters and in some cases the rear door reciever and have the BCM programmed to recognize the additonal parts.

We have done several of these it will run around 250.00 (high estimate) to do it. Parts and Labor.

I also have the same problem. Do you have part#'s for the equipment? My local dealer didnt' know how to do this. Can you add the factory alarm system with this? My only other alternative is to install an aftermarket system (looking into an Excalibur). I"m not completely against this, but my first choice is factory equipment.

Keyless Entry for Trailblazers

Be Careful! Had a Harada Keyless Entry system put on my 2003 Trailblazer and the guys who put it in must not have ever done it before. Two months after they installed it, the computer system shorted out and GM would not warranty it. GM says that they only will warranty them if it was a factory installed Keyless Entry-Even if it is hooked up right.

Makes sense don't it? Why should GM foot the bill for something the truck was not built with but another company added it on!!! Also if the aftermarket system blows up something that GM put it it also voids your warranty!

Ok i understand the 3rd Party argument, but I am having trouble finding a dealer that will install the keyless entry.

I have called 2 dealerships to ask about pricing and both have said that Chevrolet is telling them to not install keyless on the 2003 models because it might damage 1 or 2 of the modules in the vehicle.

Does anyone know if this is in fact a true statement?

It does not make sense to me.

thanks
Doug

Re: 2003 trailblazer keyless entry

The procedure described is the factory remote programming instructions from the shop manual, that you will pay $5 for on ebay

*IF* you have factory installed remote entry, this will work for all years of the TB/Envoy/etc. If you do not have the factory installed remote, the locks will cycle again as you are pressing the buttons on the remote, and it will not accept the programming.

The TB's are already setup with the components needed for remote entry....it's just a matter of adding the right programming from GM with a Techline terminal. Of course, GM isn't authorizing dealers to do this, so you need to find an accomodating dealer or mechanic with the right tools...

YMMV.....

This is exactly why the Magnuson/Moss act was brought about. If a dealer could blame tailight covers on your car for causing the headlights to blow, they would! The law was made to protect consumers from dealers not holding up warranties. It was getting so bad that dealers would denying anything like mechanical failures if you didn't have that dealer do your scheduled servicing.

In a nutshell, this federal law states that NO dealer or car maker can make the warranty conditional because of aftermarket items being used unless 1) it has been proven without a doubt that product or method of install causes stated failure or 2) the dealer or car maker provides a simular product free of charge. To contest this, make the dealer put what they say in writing. If they do, they're on the hook.

The Trailblazer platform have serious issues electronically all their own. I had to install a set of foglights in one for a dealer so they could "make the sale". So I did and used proper methods like isolating the new circuit with relays and such. Then a few months later the customer complained the the lights will flicker by themselves. I inspected everything and it was OK. They took it to the dealer and the dealer said "GM says that they only will warranty them if they were factory installed foglights, even if it is hooked up right." Ofcourse the customer freaked especially they weren't the ones that had me do the install, it was the dealer! After a spitting match between them, the dealer suddenly figured out they had me install it. So, they swapped out the lightswitch which didn't fix it. Then they swapped out the BCM and that's been about a year ago. All of that was under warranty.

I was one of the first in the country to figure out how to install a remote starter correctly in one when they first came out. Today, there are better means of doing it via the DATA port with a matching aftermarket module.

Aftermarket keyless is very easy to install for the person that knows how to install these. I've done plenty and have had absolutely no problems caused by them. You could try to look on this web www.directed.com they are the best maker of keyless entries, alarms, and remote starters. You should be able to find a local dealer near you.

OK.....but my point is that these trucks already come WITH a keyless entry system fromthe factory, whether they are turned on or not. It's just a matter of flipping some switches in the programming and scoring some remotes....and voila! Remote Entry.... It's BS that GM doesn't just activate it from the factory as a standard feature....

Re: 2003 trailblazer keyless entry

Oh, I thought that you needed a different BCM that could recieve transmitter signals to get the keyless to work.

It doesn't surprise me though. It sounds just like those base models without cruise control. All you have to do is add a new handle with the cruise buttons on it. The plugs are already under the dash. Just plug it in and go. I don't even test drive them when I am done because I know it works through the ECM.
