Exclamation Total Loss or Not?

Yesterday my 6-year-old son karate chopped his twin brother in the face and broke his arm. On our way up to the ER I was run off the road and into a guardrail by a drunk semi driver who was too busy paying attention to his texting than driving. Long story short, my son's arm was further broken, my wrist was broken, and my truck has a ton of damage. The trucking company has agreed to pay for whatever damages he caused to my truck (I do have to say my truck came out better than the semi did!).

The truck is in for an estimate at the moment and I can't imagine it will be good. I think it's mostly just body damage but I'm not 100% sure, I didn't get a good look other than the pictures I have. Does anyone have any ideas how bad the estimate might be? I've had the truck for 2 months, it's a 2009 F-350 with less than 7,000 miles. From what I can see the damage is:

Front:
Bumper - needs to be replaced
Grill - cracked
Headlights - left side is gone

Passenger Side:
Front Fender is scuffed
Passenger door is scuffed

Driver Side:
Windows are both shattered
All body panels have significant damage
Mirror is gone

Back:
Tailgate and bumper have significant damage

So I guess the question is, does my truck look like a total loss or how bad do you think the cost of the damage repairs will be?

Re: Total Loss or Not?

Welcome to AF!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope everyone will be alright given the injuries you listed. Looking at your pictures it appears that the majority of the problems are sheet metal related. Since this is a 2009 truck with very low mileage it will depend on the insurance adjuster. If the repairs cost greater than 60% of the value of the vehicle they will total it. But based on the book value of an F350 with low mileage it will take a lot to total it out. I can't give you a definitive answer but if the frame isn't damaged and the drive line is in good shape they will probably repair it for you. Good Luck!

Re: Total Loss or Not?

The Powerstroke engine raises the value considerably so 60% write off is a little less likely. You got boxed pretty good. Only the right rear and right side cab doors got off lightly here. Were it mine I wouldnt want it back. Just be happy everyone got out reasonably ok. Coulda been alot worse.

I agree with delta. You got hit pretty good, there's no way to tell what little tweaks happened to the chassis or frame. I would hope for a total loss. If the money won't cover a new truck, go after the trucking company
