Instant total loss of HVAC

Just a quick question to see if anyone has any suggestions. I live in Milwaukee (where it just got incredibly cold) and all of the sudden I have no fan to blow air into my car. I can't get any type of fan action going, Heat, cold, defrost etc. The dial on the digital gauge goes up as if the fan speed it going up, but nothing. I have checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine. Any suggestions?

That is really wired. Are there any noises like the fan getting stuck? It is plain dead? If that is the case you can check the fan switch resistor. If it is open then the fan won't receive any current to start even tought the A/C compressor or heater core are working

No noises at all, I can even hear the vents in the dash open up when I turn on the defroster, but no fan turns on. I think heat is still coming out of vent though, becuase a "small" spot on my window defrosted on my drive to work this morning.

Okay, I brought it into the shop today and they said that the fan is all rusted out and definitely was the reason why it stopped working. The shop is large and well run, but I'm a little sketchy about the fact that he said it was rusted out. It's a 2000 Grand Prix with 80,000 miles, does this sound possible? It's being replaced as I write this for about $238.

I'd check over at www.clubgp.com and see if anyone has had a similar problem. A fan rusting out on a 2000 does seem kinda sketchy...

Well, my car drowned before I bought it(that is why was cheap) and did not rusted. But in your case when salt is used can be really bad to your car. I live near the see and a water heater just lasted 3 weeks(This is a fact) when it stoped working because it was all rusted out.
It could be possible that for an unexplainable reason salt fell on the intake ducts and settled on the blower motor.
If that is the case plus condensation from heater and eletric motor heat itself means rust
Big time. TO me could be possible, not usual, but possible.

I've read other posts where cracks in seals have allwed moisture into the blower moter causing it to rust.

I'd try a blower motor resistor.

Exaclty, the first place to go is the resistor. If it is ok then the motor and if it works out the car with direct current applied to the terminals then the cabling...
