2004 Chev Classic chiltons/haynes manual?

Hello I was wondering if anyone knew where one could acquire a Chevrolet Classic manual?

I need to change the timing chain on my Classic w/ the 2.2 Ecotec and I have a manual for the up to '03 Malibu which works for the chassis stuff. However it doesn't have a section for the 2.2 Ecotec.

Would I just be better off getting a manual for the '04 and up Malibu and use that for the engine?

Thank you in advance for any input.

the 2004 malibu should be the same since they share the same 2.2L DOHC engine

autozone has the haynes type manual online for free (you just need to sign up/ log in & go to the repair info link) they won't have it for the Malibu Classic, just select Malibu...

here's one of the many pictures on there:

are you doing this as preventative maintenance to avoid the interference engine from bending the valves?

sucks, i thought with chains, they'll last the life of the vehicle; but not with this particular model

That is exactly what I am doing. One of the people I work with was telling me that he had a friend that had an eco in their car and the chain broke on him.

I figure an oz. of prevention equals a pound of cure.

The car has north of 100,000 miles on it and I plan to have this vehicle for a long time.

If that's the case, I would be changing the chain, sprockets, tensioner, and the oiler nozzle, etc.

Think I ran into this a few years back, on an '02 sunfire with the 2.2 ecotec.....Car came in with a rattling noise from the timing chain area.....found a TSB about a problem with oil nozzle......apparently, that oil nozzle was leading to chain failure....

Don't know if the '04 engine already had the newly designed nozzle in it....would be worth checking into....

I know the 2.2 OHV had small chain oil nozzle problems.

Ahoy

I had the same concern and I e-mailed Haynes...

here is their reply.

(Note: The Haynes #, 38026 is the 2003 Malibu book. Which I have a copy of I asked them if 38027 which is the 2004 Malibu book would be needed for the engine)

Dear Sir:

Thank you for your reply.

The engine illustrated in our Haynes manual #38026 in Chapter 2A is an L61 2.2L Ecotec engine. We believe that you do have the correct information for your application.

We hope that you find this information helpful.

Again, thank you for your interest in Haynes automotive/motorcycle manuals!

Best regards,

Joe -Technical Research Department

You can work on your vehicle.

Let Haynes show you how!
