90 Celica Timing belt R & R
My Celica quit starting about a week ago, Firestone wanted $900.00 to install a Timing belt. I finally have the parts needed to do the job myself. I put on the new belt and the car still does not start. I have spark coming out of the coil and spark plugs.
I need to time the Crankshaft and Camshaft. I turned the engine until the rotor is on the number one cylinder in the distributor cap. I turned the Crankshaft until the piston is at TDC. The car does not start. How do I tell if it is on the Compression stroke? I took the belt off several times and repositioned the Crankshaft, and it doesn't even try to start. All answers are appreciated.... |

Re: 90 Celica Timing belt R & R
Align the timing marks as shown in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqxbM03-rIU If you need additional information, assuming you have the 5S-FE 2.2L engine, download the FSM at this link and reference the 5S-FE information for timing belt installation: http://www.4shared.com/zip/MS7dfHjc/...l?refurl=d1url

Re: 90 Celica Timing belt R & R
Brian, thanks for the response. I do have the 5s-fe engine, 2.2.
I have seen this video, which I didn't have a chance to mark my cam gear with the belt because my timing belt has been stripped out (the teeth are mostly torn off). I did align the crankshaft as in the video and I positioned the rotor on the number one cylinder, but the car does not start. I do have fire out of the coil and spark plugs. |
