Welding seams

Hi guys,

I have a question. How do i scratch welding seams on exhausts from bikes. I saw somebody used putty thru a syringe or masking. I have done the masking before, but i think with putty i can become a better result. What kind of putty can i use and what do i use to thin the putty with? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Lesley

Re: Welding seams

ive seen it done with tamiya liquid putty. personally for 1:24 models i use superglue to make a bead, & for 1:12 i use very thin half round styrene, glue on, then get a knife (like a putty knife) heat up the tip of the knife with a lighter then make marks & squish the half round styrene until your happy with the result

Re: Welding seams

Aber makes pe weld seems also. The best putty to use would be a 2 part epoxy putty like muliput or tamiya. That way you can roll it out to size you want.

Re: Welding seams

Another option is Archer 3D resin weld decals. An exhaust might be too tight a bend for them though.

My

Also, you can use Plastistruct to make the styrene a little more malleable to make the weld marks vs heating the knife. I think the Plasitstruct lets you sculpt more than the heat lets you.

Superglue (thick superglue not the thin stuff) is a great idea too if you can make sure you don't get it too wide where you end up with a bead that is 1" in scale.

Excellent ideas Ashman!

Re: Welding seams

White PVA glue works well too. Just paint it on in joined up 'blobs' for great results.
If you naff it up, it washes off with water so you can try again.
