[Tamiya] Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) V-Spec.

I decided to go for Matt black instead of chrome yellow and God am I glad I did. If you ask me this is the sexiest model I've done.
Colour is Matt Black spray from the local automotive store, wheels I stole from a Skyline R33 I made a while back (it's not on bricks now, sitting on lovely Skyline R34 six-spokes). The spoiler didn't go on correctly, so I ripped it off and sanded the mounts down a bit so they just stick up over the boot. Looks pretty cool if you ask me :P I also debadged the front to give it a more aggressive look. Worst thing about matt paint? Shows dust and such so easily. ><

You should try doing the paint in Gloss black, applying your decals then spraying a matt clear over that. You'll be surprised at how much better it comes out. also be sure to use decal set/sol when applying the decals.

You are right, the flat black looks great on that car. I think I'm gonna try it on my next skyline...but I'll go with a very dark gray instead. (to give it more contrast from the black details)

I didn't lacquer the car, after using lacquer on a test piece it made it too shiny, and nobody round here sells matt lacquer :/
Also, what is decal set/sol?

that's the problem with matte paintjobs - the wet transfer decals don't adhere well. the decal sol will help you by melting the decal a bit so it can conform better to the uneven surface that a matte job has. it is easier though to do a gloss basecoat, put the decals on, then finish with a matte clearcoat layer or two.

if you have a local hobby shop, they should have some tamiya acrylic flat base (waterbased paint), you can add that to acrylic clear to dull the gloss, just experiment first on what ratio works for you. also, they might have gunze/mr color flat or semi-gloss clearcoat spray, that'll work too.

Thanks for the help it'll be a while before I get to the local hobby shop, the nearest one is over 100 miles away! But I'll definitely remember that for when I'm next over

Well, I don't particularly have the money.. xD 14 and and have no job or source of income apart from cleaning the cars, house and trading games and stuff in :P Jobs aren't easy to come by at this age. :/ So I kinda spent the last of my money on a set of 3 Tamiya compound and a Tamiya weathering kit. xD
