I just purchased a 1990 Buick Le Sabre an it has started acting up, While I am driving the car it will act like it is going to stall but doesn't, when I press on the accerlator nothing happens, then all of sudden we are driving again. When I stop at the stop sign an get ready to drive off, it starts hasitating again, but then takes off. Now the car wont start
and I'm a single mother who needs to know the right answer, I don't have the money for this repair but I need some help!! Please help!! (New information: When I turn the ignition on but not over, I can hear a noise coming from the gas tank area.) Thanks again

Re: 1990 Buick Le Sabre
Are there any lights on the dash? Check enging light maybe? The fuel pressure should be checked, also try cleaning the MAF sensor. Be sure to use MAF sensor cleaner.
MAF= Mass Air Flow |

Re: 1990 Buick Le Sabre
the noise from the back tank is the fuel pump but it being older car you should have the fuel pressure check if you have a check engine light on you can go to a autozone or other parts stores have a code scan done for free these code numbers are important to the trouble shooting .come back and post those numbers and one of are many fine tech can tell you what might be the trouble

Re: 1990 Buick Le Sabre
This could be many things. To do a complete diagnosis you'd need a volt meter ($10-$30 for a basic one), fuel pressure tester (a good $100 or so), and perhaps a scantool (several hundred dollars for a decent one).
Given the age of the car, I'd do these things as a matter of basic maintenance: 1) clean the MAF (there are tech articles on how to do this on the Internet) 2) replace the fuel filter. 3) replace plugs and wires 4) check battery ground. Check the resistance between the battery terminal and a good ground on the body of the car. It should read 0 ohms. Anything else means you have a bad ground. 5) battery condition. Volt meter should read 12 V between the posts, and a battery hygrometer will test the physical condition of the battery. 6) are you going through engine coolant? |
