Chevy S-10 code P0449
My truck needs either a new vent valve or Solenoid valve. How can I determine which one is causing the problem. I was told that the Solenoid is in the engine compartment and the vent is by the gas tank. Can you also tell me where the solenoid valve is located.

Re: Chevy S-10 code P0449
What year is the vehicle, and what engine is in the vehicle?

Re: Chevy S-10 code P0449
When I posted, I knew I forgot several things. The year is 2003 and the engine is a 4.3L V6 (VORTEC 4300 V6). The truck also has the extended cab.

Re: Chevy S-10 code P0449
If P0449 is the only DTC you're getting, it's indicating a problem with the EVAP vent valve or its circuits. With a bi-directional scan tool you can command the valve ON and check for voltage and ground at the solenoid connector. If you don't have access to a bi-directional scan tool, it would be cheaper to just replace the valve, (fairly common problem) rather than take it to a shop for diagnosis and confirmation of a faulty valve. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...RPEMISAMS_____ The valve is located near the fuel tank and EVAP canister. After replacing it, clear the OBDII memory and perform a drive cycle http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html If the SES light comes back on, your best bet is to have a shop diagnose the problem.
Post your results.
