cylendar 1 and 6 misfire

i got a 2002 3.8 essex the code comes up as p0316 misfire cylendar 6 first 1000 rpms and p0301cylendar 1 misfire i changed the plugs to bosch platnum when i got it a few months ago less then 3k miles on them. just put new autolite wires on it two days ago with dielectric grease. pulled cylendar 1 plug and its clean no carbon no oil dry and clean. no smoke coming from the exaust and no sweet smell so i dont think im burning coolant or oil. no mechanical damage on the plugs. when i unplug the wire from the coil pack it gets worse so i dont think its the coils. it hessitates when i give it gas but thats because of the misfire. i sprayed the vaccum hoses that i could get to with starting fluid with it running and it didnt rev up so i dont believe there is a vaccum leak i need to check compression but other then that i cant think of what it would be. im about to go check the gap on the plugs but i know the wires on the cylendars are right. it also sometimes dies on occassion and throws a code but when i start the car again it goes away idk if they are related problems but that would be my guess i just hope its not a burned valve or sticking lifter. i really dont want to have to get into the block

Re: cylendar 1 and 6 misfire

its sounds like you need that compression check, and you are on the right track check all you did and it may led to the internals etc,

Re: cylendar 1 and 6 misfire

and honestly i dont know about existing problems it had a check engine light when i got it and they told me that they took it to a mechanic and they said it needed new plugs and i took it to autozone and read the code that said cylendar 1 misfire and cylendar 1 misfire on start up so i changed the plugs and it when away until just the other day.

i mean i pulled the end of the wire from the coil and it got worse but idk if that neccicarly means the coil pack is good. it could still be a weak connection i guess

I would try the autolite plug since you have to replace anyway.

If you have not already done so I would also add some fuel injector cleaner to your fuel.

Re: cylendar 1 and 6 misfire

ive ran both lucas oil tune up in a bottle and also seafoam through it. i do not think it is the injectors i pulled the broken plug this morning and replaced it with motor craft and i plan to do all the other ones once i get this fixed i cant even begin to mention how shitty bosch plugs are compared to motor craft. anyways i replaced the plug and it got much smoother and it also got smoother with the new wires my next step would probably be coils. i honestly dont think its an internal issue because there is no smoke and every car ive every worked on if there is an internal issue that is due to a bad seal or bad gasket there is always a shit ton of white or blueish smoke. it could a burned exaust valve but i dont think it is that either my exaust smells richer but nothing compared to what it could be. also it is firing it says misfire but there is still firing because i drove it with a broken plug just down to the parts store this morning and it was alot worse so im thinking it might be ignition

[quote=Abella;6958560]i got a 2002 3.8 essex , If you have calylitic converters on one on that side could causing the problem sometimes as well, especially with it being an on and off thing, the computer sometimes read that even if the converter is bad
