01 sierra nothing happens when key turned to start
2001 sierra 2wd ext. cab. over 300 km. 5.3 motor auto
Battery charged, everything is working when key is on, but nothing happens when key is turned to start. Clicking noise can be heard in 5 pin fuse relay located on left side dash fuse panel.. How do I check it? Could have something to do with anti theft system? Thanks for all help. Last edited by nostalgia gas; 02-05-2012 at 01:00 PM. Reason: new info |

Re: 01 sierra nothing happens when key turned to start
It may just need a starter. On the starter you will find a small wire and a red battery cable. If you put a test light on the small wire and have someone turn the key to the start possition the test light should light up. If so, and the strater dose nothing the starter is bad. If not than you can keep looking further but with that many miles I would first guess it is the starter itself. Thieft control, igniton switches, wiring and such can all go bad but start with the simple and most likely problem I say. Sometimes the old smaking the starter with a hammer while someone turns the key trick will work to. Also if you are unable to test it yourself on the car, most part stores can test the starter for you if you take it off and take it in to them. Good luck

Re: 01 sierra nothing happens when key turned to start
Checked the starter and found the wire that runs from rhe starter body to the solenoid was burnt off and barely making contact. Replaced starter and all is well again. Thanks for your help.

Re: 01 sierra nothing happens when key turned to start
Very nice, I'm glad you got it taken care. It is always great when you can find the trouble on the first pass without to much pain. That starter should last you the rest of the life of the car easy so thats one less thing to worry about. Cheers!
