p0120 and p0220 codes

I have a 2003 Silverado Z-71, 5.3 liter ,with 34,000 miles. When I go to start it in the morning, it starts hard like battery going bad. The clock resets to 12:00. So I know it loses power. The battery is only 2 years old and is a 5 yr. battery. Engine lite came on so I checked codes. It came up with p0120 and p0220. accelerator pedal position sensor and throttle position sensor. After I turn it off, it will start back up normal. Battery checked good with volt meter before and after starting. Any clues?

Need to have the battery load tested. It could have 12v, but not near enough amps.

Re: p0120 and p0220 codes

+1 on gmtech1's suggestion.

I just replaced a battery with only 20 months old and a 5 year warranty.

A bad battery can certainly cause problems with reference voltages and that will trip codes regarding bad sensors. That's why you need to have your battery load tested before replacing anything and wasting your money. Any autoparts stores should be able to load test your battery, alternator and starter.

Oscar.

with your starting problems I would make sure the battery connections are cleaned and secure. that means no corrosion on wires.

sure you could have a defective battery. you could also have a bad alternator sucking down the battery when the vehicle is shut down.

after the battery / starter issues are corrected then see what codes you find. 2003 has defective throttle body controls. this will crerate a reduced power mode 20 mph max.

New battery fixed the problem. No more codes. Instant starts. Thanks for the help. Probably saved some $$$.

I'd still have the charging system tested. Sometimes a new battery can be a band aid to another problem.
