Hmm,
The Driver Information Center finally went dark the other night. Took it out last night so I could bring it in and have a closer look at it in relative comfort. Here's what the electronic display looks like now: http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x...tion%20Center/ Do I guess that the burn mark in the upper left hand corner of the display is a significant root cause for 'no display'? Any suggestions for finding a new / old unit to replace it with?

We are close to the US border and the bone yards there have 10 times more of this body style than we do on this side. There's a yard in Buffalo that has the consoles and the DIC's already pulled for anywhere from $45 to $100 (depending on whether it's a DVD unit or not). Mine is simple, just the DIC display, so I'm guessing a newer one will be about $45. Luckily the units come apart easily, so I can check the display before I buy it. Only part I may have to re-do is the 'go around in a circle twice' to get the compass to re-learn where North is.

Thanks for the reply. No, it stopped working entirely about three weeks ago. I took it out to bring it in the house so I could look at it in better light. At first it would start working if I hit the mode button a number of times with the dimmer up as high as it would go without turning the interior lights on. At first I thought it was just the cold weather playing havoc with it, because when the cabin warmed up and a performed the little ritual above, it would work for the rest of the trip. But doesn't seem to matter now what I do. We are close to the US border and the bone yards there have 10 times more of this body style than we do on this side.
