Which head gasket set?
Which gasket set would you buy? I'm leaning towards the more expensive one. The only thing I see is it's made out of Stainless Steel/kevlar reinforced rubber. It must be better. I'm trying to figure out why it's more money? Just because of the stainless steel? The web site is

Re: Which head gasket set?
Guttafixit, i would probably go with the more expensive, you always pay more for the latest technology Kevlar isn't cheap. That being said there is no reason a cheaper gasket set wouldn't do a good job either. Bottom line is get what you think is best. Good luck.

Re: Which head gasket set?
GuttaFixit, I meant to ask you are you sure it needs head gaskets? I was reading your other posts and I'm not certain you do. What are your symptoms? Does the oil have coolant in it, white smoke out exhaust when running?

Re: Which head gasket set?
I didn't see any antifreeze in the oil. I've only been driving the van about a week and no white smoke from the exhaust. I did flush the system then flushed just the heater core. I put green Prestone back in it. The gauge has gone up to the red mark twice BUT I think it's from air pockets. After I opened both bleeder screws the temp went down and after I added more antifreeze I got hot air. I did have cold air before I bleed it. When I first start it the temp went up to normal I was getting hot air. Then temp gauge goes up and up I would lose the hot air. I didn't have this problem until I flushed it. I bought it 1 night drove about 3 hours home and the temp gauge was rock solid around the 1/4 mark. And I had heat all the way home. But after reading a lot of the head gaskets going I don't want my family and I get stuck on the interstate going camping because of the gasket. I spent $260.00 last summer getting our jeep and utility trailer home after we went camping. So I'll spend the $500.00 and don't have to worry about it. lol I'll replace just about everything I can when I have it apart. Do it right the first time. I'll buy the more expensive gasket kit. The van has 171,000 miles on it. But in real great shape. I don't really know how to find out if it's ever been replaced by someone else. It might of had but I'll never know. If I do this I still only have about $1500.00 in it and that's with buying it. If I get 3 or 4 years out of it with regular maintenance I'll be happy.
Thanks, Dan |
