93 mercury villager bogs down on hiway, but not in town?

my villager is bogging down when i hit hiway speed within 5 minutes however it doesnt lose spark, then after pullin over for a minute it continues on like nothing happened.
no other problems, did plugs, wires, rotor and cap also new fuel filter and ran sea foam to clean out engine and injectors.
this does not happen within city limits... any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.

How many miles on vehicle????

Have you cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Be careful when not to damage wires in sensor. Use some Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner from pasrts store. Also check the screen for the MAF. Also disconnect the oxygen sensor and see if that makes a difference, the check engine light may come on..

Does the check engine light come on????

Do you stop turn off engine for a few minutes or just stop and let it idle then proceed. Is it hard starting when engien is cold (First start up of the day)

PM sent.

Re: 93 mercury villager bogs down on hiway, but not in town?

the milage is 231,000 kilometers, yes the check engine light comes on periodically but sometimes quickly dissapears or will stay on for a day or two, however when i am experiencing the bogging down problem, the light is not ciming on.
no i do not turn off the engine i simply wait about 10 seconds or so and it clears itself and i am able to carry on.
it is not hard to start the engine when cold, starts very well ever time.
thankyou so much for your help

Retrieve the codes from when the lite has been on and post, the codes could be of some help. Download thee service manual that is on the top of page of this forum, it will have the procedure to retrieve the codes by counting the check engine light flashes.

i'm just guessing in the meantime; you're going into "limp mode" (won't go past ~50 mph)

and the vehicle's computer is protecting itself from major damage until you get us the code(s) to start tracing the problem
