Weak start

Had the electrical system checked on my wife's 99 Blazer and it checked out fine, although the battery has been drained after having it for just under two years. This I assume is normal. A few months back, the fuel system was replaced: pump, new Vortec injection system, and fuel filter. When it conked out, this was the diagnosis and has been running great ever since. For the past few weeks, I have noticed(when I drive it), that when I turn the key to start it, the vehicle sounds kind of "weak", in my opinion. Since the electrical checks out, I have my own ideas. From doing research on the forums, and the fuel system being replaced, I see that the strongest possibility is the fuel pressure regulator clogged or starting to fail. What does everyone think? Barely have the money to put gas in it for the next two weeks, let alone just go with a hunch and blow money on something that may not be the issue. Thanks guys!

Re: Weak start

Fuel pressure tester would be a worthwhile investment... maybe a loan-a-tool would have one tho.

Re: Weak start

does it turn fast enough?spray some carb cleaner in to intake and see if it helps.what do you mean by weak?takes several seconds before starting?battery drained after 2 years not starting?is this correct?

I actually will be buying one when I get a chance. My car needs new injectors. Does this mean that if the fuel pressure was low that I should change the regulator?

The best way for me to explain is that it would sound "stronger" when I turn the key in the ignition. Almost sounds like it's "dying", yet it starts right away, not fast or slow, just starts. The battery still has plenty of charge in it, and the alternator and starter check out on electrical test.

It would give you a place to start at least; if pressure is low then you know it's in the fuel system and you can check the pump directly... just because it was replaced recently doesn't mean it's not the culprit. On the other hand if pressure checks out then you can rule out the fuel system.
