2003 alero can't start

Hi,
I'm in Portland. and tonight was a little cold and rainy.
I started my car first. When I put to "R" shift, I felt that my car trembled a lot, then I shifted to "D", it still shook. When I drove for 50 feet, it stalled. And then I tried to start it again, never make it done. (Can hear the cranking sound, but can not ignite.) I asked one of my friend to jump start it, and it didn't work. I think the battery was fine, since the the lights were bright. and the fuel tank was full.
Does anyone can give me any suggestions?
thanks.

the engine size is 2.2L (not the 3.4L one), and current mileage is 74500.

How old is the fuel filter? Have you checked fuel pressure?

I went to the car shop yesterday, and they found that it was the fuel pump problem. they replaced a new one and charged me $680.

$680!? wow just paid a little under $500 and that was is in NYS w/ high sales tax. (I was out of town and did not have luxury of shopping around for good prices.)
