96 K1500 brake line

Has anybody replaced the brake line going to the rear without removing the damn gas tank?? I wondering if I can run the line along the top of the frame and secure it somehow. There is snow on the ground now so I have not checked it out much yet.

Any ideas welcome.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Many times.
4W ABS there is two lines to rear.

I just leave old line in place an push new line threw framd/side of tank.

Also be sure to check front lines from abs unit to front brakes and master cylinder.

In many cases all lines will need replaced.

Make sure you tape over the end that is pushed through the frame to prevent debris from getting into the line.

Thanks MT-2500, I was thinking about that but was not sure if there was enough room to do. I will check all lines when I get it in a warm shop.

I replaced this line on my 2000 silverado. I cut the line off about one foot to the rear of the ABS unit. the lines at the ABS looked very good no rust. then I pulled the old line out . rusted only at one spot. the area where you could not inspect/see it. then using the old line measured and bent line close to the old. reinstalled ..I did alter the run a little so the line could be inspected better. this is a very common problem in our rust belt area. the line needs to be run so you can inspect it. I coated the line with a mineral based undercoating .. still looks great about 4 years ago ..

Re: 96 K1500 brake line

Just my , but if you are going to keep the truck for any length of time, I would go ahead and replace all the other brake lines. Like you, the first one that went was the one going to the rear. A couple of weeks later, one of the rear lines broke, and a couple of weeks after that one of the front ones sprung a leak.

You may also want to get some new bleeder screws. I believe that the Dorman part numbers I used were 13908 for the front and 13902 for the rear.

Hope this helps.
