Front Strut Mounts & Bearings Play
Apparently "both front strut mounts and bearings have play". My dealership gave me an estimate of $500 to fix this. I took my car to my local mechanic and told him what the dealership told me (but did not disclose the estimate). My local guy gave me an even bigger estimate, $1,100.
The things is I dont have time to fix this right away since I am embarking on a 1500 mile road trip. I dont hear any sounds while driving and I dont feel anything different from before, the dealership noticed this during my 60k mile service. My plan of action would be to come back from my trip and shop around for a better price. Is my car roadworthy? Can I come back and take care of this? What is the risk I am taking if I am taking care of this after my road trip? Car Details - VW Golf, 4 Door 2.0L Gasoline Engine. 60,000 miles on it. Thanks! GolfOwner, Complete Novice |

Re: Front Strut Mounts & Bearings Play
about all V W'S has that proplem on upper bearing plates wearing out. but if your not hearing a clunk or vibration in sterring wheel sounds to me like you don't really need them yet i was and alingment man for for allot of years and retired doing it. but for me if they told me that and i wasn't having any problems i would not replace yet and if you do theres always going to be a little bit of play in them.
good luck........ |
