Brake Warning Light /ABS Module
I have had my 2000 Ford Taurus in the shop three times now for an intermittent brake warning dashboard light. This is the red brake light, not the ABS light. After they replaced the master cylinder and sensor (fluid sensor they said), the light still comes on. The most recent diagnosis is that this is being caused by the ABS module and it will cost $900 for a new module. Does this sound right? Does this mean my ABS is not working?

Re: Brake Warning Light /ABS Module
If you're not getting an ABS warning indication, I would be VERY hesitant to replace the ABS module. Has anyone confirmed that the parking brake is fully released and that the switch is working properly? The source of the red Brake light coming on is a pretty simple circuit typically and should not be too difficult to correctly diagnose.

Re: Brake Warning Light /ABS Module
According to the factory service manual, the Brake light is strictly to indicate either a low fluid level or that the parking brake is engaged. The light is driven by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

Re: Brake Warning Light /ABS Module
I engaged/disengaged the parking brake before I took it into the shop but that did not clear the light. However, maybe the switch is defective. I will try that route before doing anything else.
Thanks for looking it up in the service manual. |

Re: Brake Warning Light /ABS Module
I had the exact same problem I tried everything and came tO the conclusion my abs is shot. In my case when I start the car the abs light and traction control light don't flash on and the brake scan tool doesn't get any signal from the abs module. My lights been on for over a year. Don't know if it is worth the money on my 11 year old car
