1998 88 loss of power while accelerating

went through alot of old post but none really soulved the problem.
Ok here we go car use to randomly hesitate while accelerating. when I pull over car rpms are like stuck at 2000 will not lower so I shut the car off for a minute restart everything is fine. this would happen every so often. some times when I pullover car returns to normal rpm seams to be linked to when car is hot. if I start it in the morning and get on it it seems fine but I am to far from a 55 mph zone to know for sure
this is my winter car so I thought I would get ready for winter and try to fix this problem. things I have done new complete exhaust, new cps.
used egr, map, maf and tps my reason for used parts is the car is not showing a code.
Now instead of randomly it seems like its all the time only when I reach 50+ mph while accelerating. I can go over 50 if I accelerate slowly (great when getting on a highway)
I see alot of other posts for the same issues but no one seems to post the the fix. I have checked everything plugs are good wire good.
any advise would be appreciated thanks

Check for a blocked cat either disconnect the engine pipe or o2 sensor and see if the freed up exhaust helps. Check fuel presssure also.

Re: 1998 88 loss of power while accelerating

What happens, when the car won't accelerate, if you come to a complete stop, and then floor it......Does it go or bog down? Does it rev at 3K and not seem to shift? But if you lightly accelerate from a stop it willl gradually get up to speed?

If yes, when was this exhaust replaced? Was an OEM cat put on, or a mini version?

Does it seem to MISFIRE under a load?

When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter?

Try driving the car with the MAF disconnected and see if that makes a difference.....

Pull the vac line from the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is fuel in the line....

Does it seem to MISFIRE under a load? just acceleration (just acceleration)

When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter? ( last year was doing it last year once inawhile)

(two weks ago non oem had this problem before exhaust replaced)
not sure if its missfire or starved for fuel or torque converter locking unlocking
the more I read the more confused I get

where is the F--ing code.
personaly i am thinking that all the system that could fail will throw a code. I have a u pullit salvage yard close by that has 10 of the exact same cars thats where I pulled alot of parts I think I'll try switching the ECM

Agreed, but at some point some people reach their limit then it becomes cost effective to get " some " help, no? Particulary when essential test equipment is not on hand and multiple parts replacements prove to be ineffective.

Agreed I am just use to fixing things myself. I am in my 50's so I guess I am oldschool. I would rather buy some test equipment if affordable and try to figure out whats wrong. To many times I have taken a car to someone only to find out that they just want your money. Mybe I am being stubborn but I also own a 96 328ic BMW that I am in the process of restoring and on that car when a system fails you get code that tells you whats wrong or at least what system has failed.
My problem with the olds is its like the car is posessed There are alot of things going on with no check engine light then the next day it runs great.
my approch to these issues was to start with the sensors. I replaced the CPS while I was replacing the water pump thought what the hell it wasn't bad with the water pump out of the way.
If you read my whole thread you will see that it the issue is becoming more frequent. this weekend I will buy a fuel pressure gauge and start checking that system. Hopefully I can recreate the hesitation.
One more thought I have is it possible the transmision engine and ECM are not comunicating. could the transmission selenoid be bad and if so not showing up as a check engine light and would need to be checked by someone with the ablity to read transmission codes if they even exist.

As stated any help is appreciated and hopefully when the problem is figured out it will be posted in this thead so someone can bennefit from everyone hard work
