1998 GTP - Knocking sound in 'P', whiny sound while accelerating

My 1998 GTP with 47,500 miles started to make a knocking sound yesterday while in 'P', not all too loud but you can clearly hear it. Beside that the engine gives a whiny sound when hitting the throttle, as soon as I get of the gas the noise disappears.

Since I love this beauty I am really looking forward to any hints in solving this problem. Thanks.

This is hard to diagnose based on your description. It would be easier if you could localize where the knocking might be coming from. The whining could be in the supercharger or in the transmission.

Check to make sure the tranny fluid is full for starters and if not refill. The knock could be in the belt tensioners or in the engine itself but it is hard to tell. If you can localize the noise post again.

Fluids are okay. Knocking comes definetly from the driver's side. My guess is the converter is over the top. Could that be with that low mileage?

That is for sure. So I did not expect to have any problems soon. Bought it only four months ago and was absolutely pleased until now.

I had similar noise on the passenger side and it was the water pump.

Anything is possible. Take it to a tranny shop to get it checked. This sounds like you could have an issue with the flex plate. The plate could be loose or broken or the torque convertor could have come loose from the plate.
