Restoring '89 Ranger...

Hello all,

It's been a while since I have visited here but now I have some time on my hands. I have an '89 Ranger, AT, 4wd, 2.9L, regular cab with long bed. It has been sitting outside about 6 years and I stopped messing with it about 3 years ago. I am seriously considering restoring it and I would like some advice on what steps I should take to get this truck road worthy and decent looking again. This truck is all stock with no add-ons.

Truck Problem List

1. Needs front bumper or straighten original.
2. Engine has rap in motor when hot.
3. Tranny has no Overdrive (told it could be a sensor).
4. Short in rear section of harness, reverse lights and fuse burn out.
5. Truck has spotted rust around the body and one rotted area above left rear tire.
6. The truck was broken into and it now needs a new passenger window (I have spare door with window).
7. The dash is cracked and the trim needs to be replaced.
8. Tailgate latch is stuck.
9. Fuel Gage inaccurate (Empty at half tank).
10. Hood latch will not release (Rust from sitting).
11. Probably will have rust related issues such as brakes, etc… from sitting.
12. Had to pump gas slowly because pump would click off if flowing too fast.

Parts replaced within two years of break in

1. Radiator
2. Battery
3. Alternator
4. Fuel Pump
5. Engine from bone-yard (now has approx. 103,000 miles)
6. Windshield
7. Exhaust from mid-pipe back

I have listed everything to the best of my knowledge. I would appreciate any advice on how to approach this restore. If it seems overwhelming then I will probably sell it or scrap it.

Thank you.
