2002 Cavalier Stopped Running

I have a 2002 Cavalier LS 2 Door, with a 2.2L 4 Cylinder.
I was driving on the freeway, when I exited, I noticed a sound that sounded like metal dragging on the ground. I stopped on the exit and checked, nothing was dragging, then I noticed while I was stopped, that the dragging noise continued.
I continued on my way home, and about 3-4 miles down the road, my car made kind of like a 'poof' noise or something, then stopped running. And it wont start, it cranks, but wont start.

What could the problem be?

Thanks for your help.
