service engine light

Hi, My light came on in my 2001 GT, 3.8 about a year ago during a heavy rain. Since then it has been on and off but stays on during periods of moisture. If I let my car sit for a few days, the light turns off and then on again after driving for a while. When scanned the code read a Mass Air Flow sensor. Should I clean the sensor, change the sensor, or is there something else that is causing the sensor to find a problem? The car seems to run just fine with a little hesitation when first taking off. Please help! Thanks.

Re: service engine light

The maf sensor is easily damaged and if you clean it make sure to use electrical contact cleaner. You can get it at Radio Shack. Spray gently. I would also check the contacts on the top of the sensor as they may be corroded and in need of cleaning. If the sensor cannot be saved purchase a new one not a remanufactured unit as they are not of good quality.
