2002 grand am stalls while driving

Hello everyone. The girlfriends dad is having a problem with his 2002 grand am. It stalls from time to time especially when it is hot outside but it always restarts immediately after. It is also very hesitant to upshift (automatic trans). It will rev up high and then shift hard. Any help would be greatly appreciated as pontiacs are not exactly my area of expertise.

Re: 2002 grand am stalls while driving

Welcome to AF!!

This sounds like an issue with the crank positions sensor. The sensor will fail especially when the engine and weather are hot. Once the engine shuts down and you restart the vehicle the sensor will reset and the car will start and run. It will not set a check engine light until it totally fails. Replace the sensor and the problem should go away.
