headlight problem

2005 grand caravan. This is happening frequently. Turn the lights on and no headlights. Turn the switch on, off, on, off, on then maybe they come on. Most of the time they come on first try. This evening turned them on and they came on for a bit, then went off, then came on, then off, then on and they stayed on all without operating the switch. Loose connection somewhere?. Ignition switch? What is going on here? Thanks for you ideas.
