Tamiya Mercedes 500SL's

A couple more models that were started in '06/'07 that I've recently finished.

-One is painted in a mixture of Cobra Colors to resemble Mercedes Teal, and the other is painted Cobra Colors Porsche Guards Red. I wouldn't own a Teal Mercedes, but always found the color interesting and perfect for a boulevard, luxury convertible like the 500SL.
-There's a few flaws that don't really show up in the photos. The flaws are mainly due to too much handling over the years and a rush to get them done. Plus, my skills were a bit rusty. I've worked on plenty of models in fits and starts, but haven't got the finishing stage in a long time! For instance, I cracked the Teal's A pillar after the body was painted, and from certain angles you can see the stress fractures in the paint. Also, rubbed through the Red's driver side front fender, so had to repaint that fender. I swear in certain light it looks slightly darker.
-What I would have done differently: sanded off the rear 500SL emblem and used a HD metal transfer like I did with the star and hood emblem.
-Still to do: license plates and replace the Red's window tint decal. It dried blotchy. I probably should redon my paint job on the wheels. I did it quickly and its not the best - a little too dark. Also, need to finish the hardtops, but I never liked the hardtop on the real car.
-Future plans: the 500SL was the car that really began my car obsession. I have a couple more to build. One AMG, and one I might convert into a 600SL.
- I dislike using Tamiya red and orange clears for the lenses. It takes too many coats to get full coverage and it gets goopy.
- WIP thread (and my other 500SL): http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=715521
-Enjoy! Outdoor pics this weekend.

Nice clean work. I think they both look great and the under chassis of the red on is awesome.

Lovely pair of mercs Bernard! Great color choice for both, I guess you should've put some licence plates on to cover the holes. And are you on a roll recently? More to come soon?

Yep! Nearer to completion: Two Aston DBS's and a Ferrari 360 spider. Farther off: three Ferrari Californias, SLR convertible (HD transkit) and SL63!

Very nice pair. I can't say that out loud often.
Not silver or black, maroon and navy would do for me. They are a lot more fun with a 12 though even the 6 will move these big yachts around.
