Unhappy is my engine dying?????????

k guys im a little worried let me explain. a couple weeks ago i had broke one of the four studs that are in the inside part of the valve cover where the spark plugs wires are. so there was nothing there to hold the seal down i was leaking oil a little. as the days past buy i could smell oil and see there was oil on my injectors and on top of the valve cover. wherever i was parked there was also oil under the car. i checked my oil it was ok. a couple days later i decided to check my oil again and the dipstick was completly dry. i dont know how long i drove it like that. but i was texaco so i added just 2 qts. of their oil to get me home, i didnt want to put to much cause it wasnt synthetic. but anyways i got my skunk2 cams installed yesterday and i told my mechanic while he was add it if he can check it out. i don't remember what it was called but somewhere where the oil returns or something like that(no its not the oil return line) its somewhere behind the block i guess by the injectors somewhere he told me it was almost out he said two more threads and i would have fucked my engine. but he fixed it looked over my valves and my head seemed to be fine. so yesterday i was testing out my new cams(damn they are good ones too) and i noticed when i hit the rev. rang of about 5500 rpms my exhaust tone changes a little, sounds ugly(no its not vtec)like im pushing the engine too much, its like im at 8,000 rpms and i cant go no more, but im only at 5500 rpms then at about 6000rpms or so i can feel it kick in a little and it goes away and it starts reving higher with ease. anyone know what in the world this can be. its in all me gears and it only occurs when im at 5500-6300rpms range it feels like i need to shift. im thinking i damaged something with the oil leak i hope its not nothing big. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please feel free to respond. oh yeah one more thing i still have the regular oil in there i dont know it thats it, but im gonna change it in a little with my regular 5-30 redline oil i hope that helps.

well you said it was dry so you added 2 qts, if you have too little oil in there vtec will not activate. maybe its not activating (or is it, can you feel it kick in?) and your just hitting the cams power range after 6000. i dunno cuz i dont have vtec or anything but i know vtec will not activate with low oil.

the only explanation i can think of, is that your ECU is activating VTEC @ 5500 rpm like it should, but the cams are optimized for 6,000 rpm VTEC. so basically, its activating a cam @ 5500 that isnt optimized to make power until higher up in the rpm band.

just a thought. You might want to check the specs on the cams.

first i say check yoru oil and make sure your oil level is good and its not leaking anymore. then as with most aftermarket cams, you gotta make vtec engage later in the power band, usually around 6 or 65 or so, like 91civicdxdude said

no vtec still comes on at 5000rpms and it still feels good its at about 5500 to 6300 rpm range where i feel im pushing it too hard it feels a little weak. but after that, the feeling stops and it feels normal, it continues reving up to 8000rpms just fine. its only in 55-63 rpm range where it feels weak. before i did the cams i felt this too a couple of times but didnt try looking for again cause i didnt want to mess anything up. im thinking something went wrong cause of that oil leak. cause everything was fine before i noticed the leak. what the hell can this bee.
