Ok here is what i have 2002 Town & country 3.8L
I can't seem to find the no start problem . I can get the van started by way of the relay jumping pin #87 and pin #30. it will start and run but will not start with the key only. I checked pin#86 with ignition on and i get 12.04 then I checked #85 and did not get any thing. yes i did change the relay before got deeper in to it . what is a fool proof way to find the problem. I'm leaning towards bad ground |

Re: No Start
Which relay did you jump, the ASD relay? Have you checked for relay coil signal relative to ground/power (depending on the relay, it may have a switched coil ground or switched positive trigger).
Have you checked for pending diagnostic codes? When started does it idle fine? When you get it started does it crank for a long time before starting, or start right up? -Rod |

the relay was the stater relay i got it to start and run jumping pins #87 and #30 and it starts right up and runs fine . I'm checking the grounds for thr fuse box and pcm . I read that a bad ground on the pcm could cause this problem |

Re: No Start
look down by starter and see if you see a fusable link it may have shorted out?

I seem to have good connections but it won't start with the key there is some thing I'm missing I checked every thing i could think of short of swapping out parts. Last edited by albee9; 09-19-2011 at 05:30 PM. |

Re: No Start
You might try shifting from Park to Neutral and see if that helps.
The fool proof way to find the problem would be to backprobe the leads to the relay, or remove the relay and check the leads, per the wiring diagram, to see which signal you don't have when you should. Once you know which terminal doesn't have the signal it should, you trace the circuit backwards from there. The PCM controls the relay coil so that could be a bit trickier, but there are only so many input to the PCM that would impact the starter circuit. -Rod |

P.S I already tried the shifter not that |

Re: No Start
Put my reader on the car and got code P0888 .
I need to confirm that it is the tcm causing the problem. How can I do that?? |

Re: No Start
P0888= TCM power relay sense circuit. So you need to start with the trans control relay. Here is a diagram.

Re: No Start
Well I've checked all the wires and relays fuses, and the only i can't check is the pcm don't know if it's got a connection with the engine or not.
I have not been able to pull the codes since this started, and that was the first thing i did then checked the starting system and got nill. |

Re: No Start
Pin 85 is ground. Put a jumper from relay pin 85 to good ground. See if relay energizes and starter cranks engine when key is turned.

Thank you every one for your help and suggestions
It was the pdc no ground I have a dumb question can the POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER be taken apart for repairs. Last edited by albee9; 10-02-2011 at 03:26 PM. Reason: did not want to waste space |

Re: No Start
The PDC does not ground the relay; the PCM does. Here's a wiring diagram. There are a lot of reports of corrosion inside the IPM and connectors which are underneath it. Also reports of corrosion of the forward control module. IPM is what you are calling the PDC.

So I'm thinking it's the circuit broad in the IPM |
