Re: rear axle

VIN # 1GTGK23U84F182603 reason I ask is because there seems to be a fair amount of play in the side axles,if i get the truck rocking you can hear them clunk from moving same if when you hit a rough spot in the road.I tried rocking the truck with the parking brake on and it dosen't make any noise. Is it normal for these to have alot of play for the side axles to move or should I be looking at getting a new spider gear pin.I'm worried the C clips will fall out and cause alot of damage. If its a full floater then I guess I need to check wheel bearings but got a feeling its the semi floating rear.

Re: rear axle

Are you just wanting to know if its a full or semi-floating axle?I'm pretty sure the 2500K truck is a full floater. Is there 8 bolts in the center of the rear axle? This bolts the axle to the hub of a full floating axle. If not, it's a semi-floater.

Re: rear axle

its a semi floater, there isn't a way to remove the side axle unless you take the diff apart.I found this out today so now the question is the play thats in the 2 side axles,I have had many cars and truck with this type of rear axle and can't remember the play being this great.I know there will be some but have never heard it before while driving in other cars.if the pin isn't that expensive I'm going to replace it anyways to be sure.
