2001 Cadillac SLS SURGE @ IDLE

Hello,

My 2001 SLS Cadillac with the northstar motor, surges about 500 rpms up and down when @ idle. It doesn't do this all the time, and sometimes I can restart the car and it will run smooth. Any thoughts on what could cause this? Thanks ellis479
