17.3 @ 78.87mph with a zc crx..... why?

Went to the track tonight..... and came up with these poor results....

60" 2.465
330 7.121
1/8 11.053
mph 61.74
1000 14.503
1/4 17.387
mph 78.87

finished 1/4 at redline on 3rd gear.

yes, i know..... horrible.... now im not that good of a driver but i can't be that bad..... so now either a masive tune up but first i wanna find out what tranny was installed cause maybe they screwed me over

that doesn;t sound right really, its a dohc zc with a 5 speed tranny..should be faster.

check out my slip in my signature, its only for 1/8 mile, but it could give you an idea since i have a sohc vtec, with similar horsepower.

did you only run one time?

did you finish at redline or rev limit? hitting the rev limiter KILLS your times. also, what rpm are you shifting at and what ECU are you using.. not sure if it helps, but in the 1/8 mile, i was shifting into 3rd about 100 feet from the finish line, shifting at 7400 rpm. DX tranny.

i dunno, it doesnt make sense. the slowest time i ran all night was a 10.5 and i missed 3rd and coasted to the finish line.

maybe your cam timing is off? what rpm are you shifting at and what rpm does it drop to after shifting.. and what mods do you have?

it really should be faster, let me ask you, did you have any speaker boxes or anything like that in the car? anything that would make it heavy?

Shift right before redline, get better tires and have a nice suspension set up. All that plays a big part of improving your times. You're losing power when u pass redline and hit fuel cut off. Launch at 3000-3500. Keep practicing your launch to see where its best at gripping the road.

Hmmm... I'd say low 16s to high 15s would be acceptable with your setup. I know that I have to shift at 8200 to stay on the VTEC profile of the B16A and keep power up. Shifting at anything less than 8000 falls off the power curve.

I'd work out your power curve (dyno) and look at where your revs need to be when you drop into the new gear and then practice your shifts until you can hit the "sweet-spot" every time. Bouncing off the rev-limiter is no good - you will lose power due to the cut-out retarding the engine and cutting spark. Take it to redline and if that means another shift then do it and stay on the loud-pedal. Just as a matter of interest, are you using the ZC gearbox? I think it has better ratios on 3rd over the SOHC ones in terms of run-out. I think - I'm not too sure.

Cheers

How fast can you shift? If its taking too long to switch gears then you are dropping out of the power ban during your shift. If you can shift really fast then dont take your foot off the gas..it wont have time to rev if you shift fast enough. Just dont do it very often..its not good for the tranny
