A buddy of mine has an old escort. It's an '85 I believe. Anyway, he says that when he reaches about 60 mph the car just shuts down. The gauges indicate that the car is not overheating. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Shutting off over 60 mph
When it shuts down will it restart immediately? When it shuts down do the instrument warning lights come on or are they all dark?

Re: Shutting off over 60 mph
He said that when the car dies, he can slip it into neutral and start it up usually before coming to a stop. He also said that the oil and engine lights come on when it dies, but don't all cars do that? Thanks

Re: Shutting off over 60 mph
I'm thinking that it may be a bad ignition switch.
I asked about the lights because if they didn't come on it might indicate a bad battery connection.
